About Us

Our Credo

Oshkosh Area United Way fights for the health, education, and financial stability of every person. United Way envisions a community where all individuals and families achieve their human potential through education, financial stability, and healthy lives.

Our History

Oshkosh Area United Way (OAUW), a local nonprofit organization, was established in 1962 when the Chamber of Commerce, organized labor, and other community leaders came together to explore the benefits of a community-wide fundraising campaign.

More than five decades later, OAUW has evolved from those roots as a fundraising organization to a community convener which mobilizes local partners including businesses, community leaders, public officials, and residents, to identify community issues and solve problems.

Our focus is on three key building blocks, a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family and good health. OAUW helps to identify community needs, create solutions and fund local programs that deliver direct health and human services to the people in our community.

Why United Way?

The Oshkosh Area United Way impacts 1 in 3 people in the Oshkosh area. We are helping to build a thriving and healthier community for everyone by working with community leaders, local experts, and nearly 30 local charitable organizations to combine efforts in fundraising and support. All dollars are raised here, stay here, and are shared here.

United Way changes lives for the better. When you invest in United Way, you help people. You feed hungry people. You help children grow and develop. You provide safety. You ensure that emergency services are there to help people rebuild their lives after a disaster.

Local and Efficient

All of the money raised stays right here in our community. And our United Way prides itself on keeping overhead costs low so that your gift to United Way goes directly to meet the needs of our community. This makes our community a great place to live, work, learn and play.

The United Way allocation process utilizes community volunteers who review every United Way-supported program to ensure that your gift is being spent efficiently and effectively.
Oshkosh Area United Way’s strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency have earned it a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator.

Inclusive and Diverse

The Oshkosh Area United Way staff, and volunteers reflect the diversity of our community. We respect, value and celebrate the unique attributes, characteristics, and perspectives that make each person who they are. We believe that bringing together people from diverse backgrounds allows us to more effectively address the issues in our communities. United Way promotes an inclusive environment that leverages the unique contributions of diverse individuals and organizations so that we can collectively and effectively create opportunities for a better life for all.
