Day of Caring Project Proposal

Thank you for your interest in participating in Oshkosh Area United Way's Annual Day of Caring on Wednesday, May 8Day of Caring is the perfect opportunity to tackle projects you need help completing, spread awareness about community issues and solutions, and extend your reach to those who could serve as future volunteers and advocates.

We're seeking projects that will fill about a 4-hour time frame. 

Below are tips on creating a positive experience for volunteers:

Think outside of the box! Here are some examples of activities our volunteers are looking for:

  • Landscaping
  • Spring cleaning
  • Improve Human Resources documents (edit job descriptions, review an employee handbook, attendance policy, dress code policy)
  • Help with Marketing and Communications (social media strategy, how to write an effective press release, multi-media strategy, website audits)
  • Mission-based activities like writing letters, packing food kits, spending time with senior citizens.
  • Finance and Accounting Information Technology (budget assistance, insurance information, IT advice)
  • Fundraising and Development (event planning, donor strategy)
  • Painting
  • Assembling hygiene or clothing kits
  • Project and Program Management (help with Excel and Word, project plan development, scorecard development)
  • Explain why the project is important to help volunteers to more deeply understand the impact they are making
  • Take this opportunity to showcase what your nonprofit is capable of doing
  • Give a short tour when your volunteers arrive
  • Introduce volunteers to your guests (if possible)
  • Create friendly competition with incentives
  • Debrief at the end of the project
  • Thank volunteers (welcome banner, photos, thank you notes, social media, snacks, etc.) 

May 8 Event Timeline

7:30 a.m. | Registration at La Sure's Banquet Hall (3125 S. Washburn St., Oshkosh)
8:00 a.m. | Free breakfast and group photo
8:30-noon | Volunteer at site

Ex: Work boots. We recommend providing as much as possible.
