Scouting for Food

28th Annual Scouting for Food Drive

On Saturday October 10th, 2015, Boy Scouts distributed their food bags to doorsteps throughout the community for their annual Scouting for Food program. Scouting for Food is a door-to-door food drive that strives to help end hunger in our communities.

For more than 25 years, Scouting for Food has helped stock local pantries with over ten million containers of food. The Scouts’ efforts have a major impact in helping families and children gain access to food and end hunger. In 2014, more than 400,000 items were collected by the Bay Lakes Council and their goal for 2015 is to collect over 500,000 items to be donated to our local pantries. They are asking for your help!

Participation is simple

Throughout the week collect food items that you wish to donate and place them in the Scouting For Food Bag. Donate non-expired, non-perishable food preferably with high nutritional value and low sodium. Consider donating the following “Food Drive Five”: protein foods (nuts, peanut butter, canned seafood, canned poultry), fruit (canned in juice, or dried), soups with protein and vegetables, whole grain pasta and cereal, and colorful canned vegetables. It is important to provide families that use pantries the access to nutritional and healthy food options.

If you will be away this weekend, you can drop off your donations at local pantries or Festival stores during business hours through Friday, October 16th. On Saturday, October 17th, make sure you place your bags filled with donated items on your doorstep for pick-up by 8:00 AM. If your bag is not picked up by the end of the day, please take your donation to a local food pantry or to any nearby Festival store.  After the food items are collected, the troops deliver these donated items to the food pantries. All food that is collected stays here in our community!

Together we all can make a difference for those in need by fighting against hunger!
